*Vintage Burmese Myanmar Kalaga Tapestry* Measures 10" W. x 11"L. (not including measurements for silver threaded tasseled bottom or attached hanger) Kalaga (meaning curtain) This tradition sewing technique is known as "Shwe gyi" goes back many centuries. They are generally made from linen, silk, velvet and cotton These embroidered appliques are often adorned with gold and silver metallic threads, metal sequins, beads, glass, and stones. These are often referred to as "Shwe gyi do" in Burmese were attached to the backing of a cloth and decorated with beads. Items made using the method were and still are a unique treasure indigenous to Burma Myanmar region.Myanmar (formerly Burma) is a Southeast Asian nation of more than 100 ethnic groups, bordering India, Bangladesh, China, Laos and Thailand.
