    Description

This is a Rare, Brass, ETAS Public Toilet Coin Operated Lock.
It originally used a Penny to activate, but the slot and mechanism are not the size of an American Penny, it is much larger. Most likely a Great Britain/United Kingdom pre-decimal penny that was used from 1707-1970. This coin measured 31mm/1.22 inches.
It is the model No.11 manufactured by ETAS.
The coin receiver is still in tact, and has a part of the mechanism that when a coin is deposited,  an arm swings up and allows the "VACANT" and "ENGAGED" sign to be slid over into the window. The knob spins freely, it is not connected to anything. There is no lock on the mechanism or coin door, and no latch.
The main housing measures 13" x 4 1/4" x 1 1/4". The coin entry rises up about 3/4" above the top of the housing. It weighs slightly over 4 1/2 pounds.
It has a great patina look now, but if someone chose to, it could use a good cleaning and polishing. Please see the pictures for condition.
Someone that has some mechanical ability and creativeness could probably figure out how to make this actually work on a door.
This is an estate item and being sold as is as found, I have no other information about this item.
This is a cool item that has the potential to be restored and possibly used again, or just as a great antique conversation piece !
