PROWHEADS
(TSJI TSJEMEN)
The Prowheads of war canoes are carved in great detail with ancestor figures and headhunting symbols that give the canoe and the men in it the protection and prowess of these representations.
Sometimes a bride price stone axe and/or a syrinx aruanus
sheli will be tied to the prowhead to increase the strength of the warriors
Prowheads may also be carved separately and attached to dugout before going into battle.
In time of peace, the prowhead is removed so that It will not be damaged accidentally when travelling narrow streams or when banking the canoe
