The story behind the mug:
A 10' tall south seas frigate statue sat above the entryway to the flagship Kona-Kai restaurant in Philadelphia from 1961 - 1985.  The Kona-Kai was one of the most grandiose of all the historic tiki palaces in America, nearly all of which have since been demolished.   Just as it was about to be torn down in 1985, a local collector was able to bribe the foreman on the demolition crew 0 to let him salvage the restaurant's most prominent artifacts before they were destroyed.   The bird was saved!!    ...After 34 years out of the public eye, the Kona-Kai frigate bird is on display publicly on the wall of the grand staircase at Max's overlooking the entryway lobby.   Be sure to check it out the next time you make it into Max's South Seas Hideaway!!!    Max's has replicated it as a tiki mug in their own in-house ceramic studio in Grand Rapids Michigan.
This tiki mug is brand new; never used.   I picked it up at Max's and took it out of the packaging only for the photos you see.   I've added a large (11" Swizzler - green w/yellow lettering) swizzle stick and a Max's cocktail napkin and immediately placed back in the bubble-wrap and box ready for shipment to you.
