This listing is for American history.  Gum/Candy programs long helped charities like Jerry's Kids, Kiwanis, etc.  This is an extremely rare complete unit that was made specifically to raise money for children with Down Syndrome.  50-70 years ago it was normal to refer to afflicted children as being "retarded".   These programs raised millions of dollars for the cause and advertised the program on the machines.  This is one of those rare machines.  The decal reads, "Retarded Children Can Be Helped", has a picture of a sad looking boy, and advertises that the funds go to the Retarded Children's Assoc.  The word "retarded" may not be politically correct anymore but millions of dollars were raised for down syndrome through this program.  Own this piece of Americana and you will have the rarest gumball machines in this industry.  This is a piece for many types of collections including vending, Americana, weird history, and political incorrectness.  It vend perfectly for a penny.  It could use a good cleaning and/or a new paint job.  The globe is cracked where the decal is located but it still works and serves its purpose.  We discounted it to under 0 to make it affordable.  A new lock and key is installed so that you have a fully functioning machine.
