Screw Pin Chain Shackles are made of tough, durable, hot-dip galvanized steel. A chain shackle, also known as a d shackle, is narrower than a bow or anchor shackle and its smaller loop is designed to take large loads in straight-line pulls only. It contains a screw pin which is popular to use because it is easy to connect and disconnect and can be removed from the body of the shackle. Also, note these shackles are “D” shaped. Do not side load D shackles as this can twist these types of shackles. To avoid twisting, the center of the load should align with the center line of the shackle. When attaching a single sling or multiple slings to the shackle, connect them to the body, and not the pin to avoid damage. These heavy duty shackles are tough and durable accessories to use with nylon and polyester slings. Paired with chains, the chain shackles provide a link to connect to other hardware or supplies. The chain shackle can be used in many applications such as industrial and agricultural applications. In general, it is ideal to use the galvanized shackle for industrial applications where moisture is not a concern. Galvanized steel has a thin coating of zinc oxide to protect the steel from elements that lead to corrosion and oxidation. If you are wanting to use an anchor shackle for low humidity or moisture areas, the galvanized screw pin anchor shackle would be the best choice as it is more inexpensive than the stainless steel. Be sure to check the Working Load Limit (WLL) of the shackle to ensure it will work for your intended use. The WLL is embossed on each shackle. Always ensure the pins are straight and properly engaged, meaning the threads are fully engaged on the shackle. If the load shifts, the sling will unscrew the screw pin. Shackles should be inspected before each use. If you see bending on the body or pin, remove the shackle from use and dispose of it. As with all equipment with stated load limits, these strengths limits are based on proper use. Improper use will decrease strength and may cause the shackle to fail.
