Screw Pin Wide D Shackle is made of durable Type 316 stainless steel, and it is precision cast with a screw pin. The screw pin is popular because it is easy to connect and disconnect and can be removed from the body of the shackle. This screw pin shackle does not have a captive pin but features a wider opening and a longer screw pin. The shackle features a wider body for a maximum mounting area, and one of the applications that this shackle can be used for is mooring buoy applications. A d shackle is narrower than a bow or anchor shackle, and its smaller loop is designed to take large loads in straight-line pulls. These shackles are called D Shackles because they are “D” shaped, and this type of shackle has a longer body to provide additional length when needed. Do not sideload D shackles as this can twist these types of shackles. To avoid twisting, the center of the load should align with the center line of the shackle. When attaching a single sling or multiple slings to the shackle, connect them to the body, and not the pin to avoid damage. This stainless steel shackle is made for durability as it contains Type 316, the most common type of stainless steel used in nautical applications, damp environments, or high chloride marine applications. The Type 316 grade contains molybdenum, which is made to prevent corrosive effects of saltwater. Be sure to check the Working Load Limit (WLL) of the shackle to ensure it will work for your intended use. Always ensure the pins are straight and properly engaged, meaning the threads are fully engaged on the shackle. If the load shifts, the sling will unscrew the screw pin. Shackles should be inspected before each use. If you see bending on the body or pin, remove the shackle from use and dispose of it. As with all equipment with stated load limits, these strengths limits are based on proper use. Improper use will decrease strength and may cause the shackle to fail.
