Ducati Show Bike - Double EspressoThe modern superbike is the ultimate incarnation of each motorcycle company's abilities and talents;they're the flagship, the bike in their ads, their most expensive product, the one designed for you to lust after. But truth be told they basically all look the same and the days of radically unique machines on showroom floors are long gone. So, to fill that void where mechanical machine meets metal art, a new generation of designers and builders have stepped forward to push the boundaries to the limit. One of the new designers is Chris Stout, and his latest build “Double Espresso” explores the possibility of what a period-manufactured café racer bike might have been.
Stout Engineering’s ethos is to bring ou tthe essence of a bike and to have a build be as enjoyable to ride as it is to look at. His project
bikes have been in numerous shows and events, including the Barrington Concours d'Elegance, winning their class 100 percent of the time.
This bike is truly one of a kind. A work of art. A one-off expression featuring a rare Italian racing heart and soul that turns a lot of heads everywhere it goes. This is the designer’s personal bike, #1 of 1 ever made, and is now available for sale.
This bike has been featured in:
Pipeburn
Revival
Cycles
Dime City
His past projects have also appeared in:
Ultimate Motorcycling
Hot Bike
BMW Vintage Owners Club
There are a number of details and Easter eggs with this special Stout Edition “Double Espresso” Ducati, like the thin pinstripe that represents the colors of the Italian flag running along the top of the tank and tail, the designer’s name in classic Ducati font blacked-out inthe carbon fiber fork covers, and a tiny homage to Stout Edition by theignition. People don’t realize the attention to detail unless they come up toit when parked—like the word “Ducati” barely visible on the tank, or the fact it is matte film, not painted (and redone four times until it was perfect).Even the key fob is a classic nod to the Ducati’s heritage.
Double Espresso was featured at The Milwaukee Builders’ Invitational and the Ultimate Builders Competition at the Chicago International Motorcycle Show.
In his own words:
The project name is an homage to the signature Ducati twin (or desmo), hence "double" and its reconfiguration as an Italian cafe racer. The thread stitching everything together was to have a café racer that was a bit different than the rest.
I sourced bits and pieces from allover the US, as well as Berlin and Italy (of course), and had to fab others.None was easy or quick. Lots of ideas simply did not work. Design, try, iterate, and try again. Rinse and repeat.
People don’t realize the attention to detail unless they come up to it when parked—like the thin pinstripe that is actually the Italian flag drawn across the length of the bike, or the word“Ducati” barely visible on the tank, or the fact it is matte film, not painted, and redone four times until it was perfect.
Most every part had been tweaked or replaced. To many this may seem like a lot of time and talent and money spent for a one-and-done project—and it was, simply for the joy of reengineering something—making it different, better, and realizing a dream.
This bike has twice topped over 100kviews/likes in a week, see profiles in Dime City, Revival, and Pipeburn. It was accepted into the Milwaukee Builder's Invitational and featured at the International Motorcycle Show’s Ultimate Builders Competition. It performs as well as it turns heads. It has less than 1000 miles on it since completion. All project and service receipts available.
