Screw Pin D Shackle with Hex Sink Pin are precision cast and made of Type 316 stainless steel. A d shackle is narrower than a bow or anchor shackle, and its smaller loop is designed to take large loads in straight lines. These shackles are called D Shackles because they are “D” shaped. Do not side load D shackles as this can twist these types of shackles. To avoid twisting, the center of the load should align with the center line of the shackle. When attaching a single sling or multiple slings to the shackle, connect them to the body, and not the pin to avoid damage. The pin style closure carries a hex head screw pin, making it a great choice to use where a standard pin shackle may snag. Also, the screw pin is popular because it is easy to connect and disconnect and be removed from the body of the shackle. These stainless steel shackles are made for durability as it contains Type 316, the most common type of stainless steel used in nautical applications, damp environments, or high chloride marine applications. The Type 316 grade contains molybdenum, which is made to prevent corrosive effects of salt water. Be sure to check the Working Load Limit (WLL) of the shackle to ensure it will work for your intended use. The WLL is embossed on each shackle. Always ensure the pins are straight and properly engaged. Shackles should be inspected before each use. If you see bending on the body or pin, remove the shackle from use and dispose of it. As with all equipment with stated load limits, these strengths limits are based on proper use. Improper use will decrease strength and may cause the shackle to fail.
